Oh this is lovely -- two whole months since I did all the research and decided to make the plunge with Sonar as my DAW of choice.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've fiddled with Reaper. Looks decent.

Not bothering to contact customers by email is rude - I found out on a Facebook music group.

I would like to not have to rely on the Cakewalk server, as others have mentioned, providing permanent authorisation codes would be the right thing to do.

I have two accounts - lifetime on my personal one and 1 x lifetime, plus 20 pro versions (added in April this year) on my work account.

I can't teach dead software so will need to replace the 20 copies with something. I don't want dongles, so Cubase is out. I will probably go for Studio One - it doesn't have notation though. I could look at Notion but we already have Sibelius.

Good luck to the developers, my gripe is with the Gibson management, not the Cakewalk staff.

Cakewalk SONAR are just fabulous!!!  Too bad, it goes!  This is a big waste and I cannot believe that nobody gonna take this treasure onto is harms...man I work every day with this since 1997 back with Cakewalk pro audio 8...I feel guilty that I haven't upgrade all the time the company had something new.  Because, I'm not a computer man but a musician so, it take long time to me to lean all the richness of this program.  The bakers going too fast for me, they are genius and more and more.
Like a lot of people, I feel like I'm loosing a very close friend because every time I had a problem that I couldn't resolve myself, I knew that it was possible to find an help here on the forum.
In case of nobody will take this in is own, I want to sincerely say thank you to every body here...staff first, consumers after and believers after.  20 years with you is nor nothing for me!

Common somebody have to grew up that thing!  Why not?
Où aillent notes estie???

Ironic....I landed in this forum today because I was looking for a thread on why Cakewalk Sonar is not promoted more.  I guess I got my answer.  :-/  It's bittersweet for me since this was my first DAW.  I have two other DAWs and was thinking I needed to really focus on one.  That choice is now easier: Reason 10 or Ableton 10.  The VSTs and plugins I have will work in any DAW platform so that's not really a problem.  I might miss the Quad curve EQ so I'll probably head over to Fab Filter Pro for that. I have the project files from my first CD so not sure what I can do there.  I know the software will still work so I'm not totally SOL.  Just kinda sad really.

Very saddened and a bit angry, too.

As many have already written, my heart goes out to the Cakewalk employees who, so close to the holidays, have lost their jobs.
Thank you for all you have done and I wish (as I imagine all of us here at the forum do) you much success in the your future endeavors.

God bless!

So what DAW is everyone thinking of making the switch to? I don’t know how I feel about putting my eggs in a basket that’s been closed. The Pro-Channel/console simulations played a big role in my decision to jump on board with Cakewalk a few years ago. Should I just buy Waves NLS and look for something different?

I already have Ableton and Reason so I'll choose between those two.  Since I'm concentrating on dance music it'll probably be Ableton, although they both work well for that.

I love this forum and would be willing to kick in some money to keep it going.

ditto

Me too.

Forum software: $400 one time + $16 per month after one year
Hosting (guessed): $50 per month (or more)

Still willing?

400 split between 400 people=1 dollar
Still interested ? Yes.

Again, me too. There are hundreds of regulars here, I'm sure a fundraiser could be put in place.

I have a question, perhaps two.

Also, with Splat you got Melodyne Essentials and some adpaks from Addictive Drums. Can those be moved to a new daw?

My question exactly.  I want to know if I can still use AD2 and Adpaks in another DAW. Melodyne...not so much.

I sure wish that I could purchase one final update.  The version I currently own has suited me fine, but if this is my last chance for a "bite at the Apple" I would like to have the latest assuming it would allow me to use the software a bit longer before it becomes incompatible with a follow upon version of Windows.

Yes, please! I wouldn't pay full price, but I'd be willing to toss in say 50€ for the latest Professional. Mine is about a year behind, and there's some newer additions I'd like to have.

Before this I've always been able to use AD2 in FL Studio and Maschine, so it should work fine. And once you've installed and authorized it you have a separate XLN account which is managed by the XLN product manager.
