How does one administration differ over another when it comes to Law? True 'the chosen one" could do no wrong!
A class action is a class action no matter who gets in it is the same Public Service.

I bought my first Cakewalk on a floppy disk so it seems like I'm losing a family member.  First Lemmy, now Cakewalk! Life is not fair.

Some millionaire out there with a good heart and musical background, please buy the rights and keep the tradition going.

Many of us suspected something like this when they announced the lifetime updates offer. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon.

It makes me angry.

And saddened for the staff.

I know.  I have been using Platinum and trying out Cubase today.  I do not want to make this a Cubase thread.  But let me say that there is a lot about Platinum that I took for granted.

Just this week, Trump signed a law that makes it almost impossible to make class action suits against banks.

As much as I understand why Gibson would want to do this and focus on other things, this was not the way. I feel for those who bought their lifetime subscriptions after I did and really are getting screwed. I do hope this excellent product is rescued by another entity. It's cheaper to own and arguably better than Pro Tools so why wouldn't it be an attractive product to acquire. After having worked for other companies that shed parts of their business for the same reasons, all I can think of from experience is that they don't care about their customers. The bottom line and shareholder returns are what matters. they may say they care about their customers, but I know from experience we are way down on the list. Unfortunately there's not much we can do to influence that except tell our friends in an intelligent manner how this has changed our opinion of Gibson brands.

The last Les Paul I purchased was enough to make me wary of ever buying another Gibson guitar again (bad toggle and tone pot within a week and just it sounds dull compared to the 5 guitars I've purchased since), but Cakewalk was another story. It has always served me well and their support was the best.

Request to Gibson: Make a sincere and concerted effort to find a new owner.

Like everyone else, I read the Gibson/Sonar announcement with great sadness and consternation. I have been a Cakewalk owner since the 90's. I consider it to be the penultimate recording software - tons of features, steady enhancements, and easy to use. Gibson hopefully realizes that Cakewalk / Sonar is more than a product. It's a platform upon which a huge number of musicians create their craft. That's a skill that takes practice and nurturing, and isn't easily interchanged.

So, Gibson, what you have in your hands is more than a 'product'. I can't speak for the profitability of the product line, and I can't criticize Gibson for making a business decision. I will note that the 'lifetime' offer of enhancements was way too short. In return, then, for the loyalty and enthusiasm of your customer base and their paid-in dollars, please make a sincere and concerted effort to find a new owner for Cakewalk who can continue to move it forward.

Finally, hats off to all the Cakewalk engineers. Creating something out of thin air is hard work. Kudos for all your efforts.

When they said "lifetime updates," they meant "for the lifetime of Sonar, which ain't gonna be long."
