TX16Wx like you mentioned is excellent. The next best is probably shortcircuit 2, haven't used either in a long time so I don't know how they compare but they're both excellent and I used them extensively some years ago

Ran across this freebie today.  You could load drum samples into this.
 
Grace is a VST plugin sampler. Everyone should have a sampler in their toolbox.

 

  • Grace is a VST 2.4 plugin. 32bit and 64bit versions available.
  • Windows 10
  • VST Host (Cubase, Ableton Live, Sonar, FL Studio etc)

    I wouldn't recommend Grace, because it lacks many features for drum sampler like multirouting. It is more like a sampler for keys, synths, etc, not the drums.

    Plogue Sforzando can indirectly do what you want and it is free.  Sforzando uses SFZ files but you can also drop SF2, DLS and acidized WAV files directly on the interface, and they will automatically get converted to SFZ 2.0, which you can then edit and tweak to your liking!
