I am looking to make a more portable music setup. Mainly the laptop because I have all of the other necessary equipment: audio interface, mini keyboard, ect. I am wanting the smallest laptop or equivalent to run just a few 32 and 64 bit vst's and a couple of DAW's, Cakewalk being one of them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

If working at lowest possible latency isn't a huge priority, most off-the-shelf laptops will be ok.
If you're pushing heavy loads at say a 64-sample ASIO buffer size (or smaller), laptop choice is a lot more critical.
For the later, a custom laptop running a Desktop Coffee Lake CPU (vs. typical "mobile" CPU) will yield highest possible performance.

I am thinking about taking a look at the Windows Surface. Its a little more expensive then I was planning but it might be what I need.

The smaller/sleeker the machine, the slower the CPU.
They are slick looking.
As long as you're not pushing the hardware too hard, you'd be fine.
If you're looking to work at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size, Surface isn't what you want.
