I hate the look of the Console view meters, so if anyone (Robin Kelly?) knows how to do this please share .

Take care all!

Jose, I'm pretty certain that's a video artifact (De-Moivre effect?) that happens when you resize something that has lots of horizontal lines to a smaller resolution and then use anti-aliasing and lossy compression.

Aaaaaaawwww! That sucks . I thought it made it look cool and was hoping to have mine look like that, oh well. Anyways, thanks for putting this mistery to rest. That totally makes sense.

Take care!

No worries, though I'm also sad to report that the VU meters in the Console View are actually part of the Bitmap graphic and can't be set in the Color settings.

Like you, I really dislike the meter graphics. I wish they were more customisable.

Hey I finally got round to creating and posting my own colour scheme, as you can see it takes it's lead from DonM's darkside and also from Jose's Logic schemes.

I just wish I could find out how to edit the MSR buttons so they are as dark as their background, also I can't work out how to make the trim and pan different colours in the console (not a big deal as I don't use it but for those who do, sorry!)

Enjoy

A bit of poking around has shown me how the dark murky buttons in SONAR 7 might be turned into light, simple buttons. Unfortunately, it won't be trivial.

I used RESOURCE HACKER to examine the EXE and DLL files installed with SONAR 7. All the images, including the buttons and splash screens and more, are contained in TTSRes16.dll. It's a big file, with hundreds of bitmaps, among other things. I was surprised to see that this file contained not only images for SONAR 7, but bitmaps with splash screens and interface elements for many different (such as LE) and older versions of SONAR and even what appears to be interface elements from CAKEWALK PRO AUDIO.

There are several sets of buttons that are closer to what I'd like to see in SONAR 7 - light grey with black icons. I assume they're from earlier versions of the program. How do I go about telling SONAR 7 to use these instead of its default?

Is there a secret cakewalk.ini setting that will compel SONAR to choose another set of button bitmaps from TTSRes16.dll?

I tried substituting my own altered, simplified button images into the dll file. Good news, it didn't prevent SONAR from starting and running. Bad news, the new image didn't appear in the interface. I notice many seemingly redundant sets of button images in the dll, so I must have missed the right slot into which to plug the modified image.

I have experience skinning WINAMP and AIMP, and it seems that skinning SONAR should be no more difficult. However, without the scheme or a skinning tool, I'm shooting in the dark here.

Any secret info or glaringly obvious resources I've overlooked that might assist me in this attempt to bend SONAR's interface to my own demented will?

MAKE A BACKUP of the DLL first!

Then, use a resource editor to determine the size of each bitmap you want to replace, create the replacement bitmap (you may want to export the original bitmaps as a starting point), and then paste your new bitmaps over the old ones using your resource editor. That's pretty much all there is to it. It can be pretty time consuming, but it is easier once you've mapped out the names of the resources you want to update.

Dan

For the "M" "S" "R" button, it's the 717, 731 and 739 in the Bitmap folder (opened with Ressource Hacker). I tried and it works, fun . The .bmp are 116, 120, 125.

JTANK - are you gonna have that nice bright color scheme uploaded to mr Rothchilds server soon ?

These are great, to change colors according to the mood you're in when working

Oh yeah - here's the color scheme from which I posted a screenshot above:

I since removed the menu gradients by using the tip from Jose7822. I have yet to update the dark buttons using ResHacker because that's going to take some serious time, which is in short supply.
