What is a step sequencer and how do I use it?

Hi, people have told me that I need to use a step sequencer. the problem is I don't know what that is, let alone how to use it. Can someone please explain what it is, how to use it, and how I can get to it. That would be very much appreciated. Thanks!..

I am looking to confirm that the audio to midi just delivers timing not pitch.Are there any program that will convert audio to midi with the pitch/notes?..

Sonar X3 and Microbrute - no midi ??

Hey I connected my Microbrute with Sonar. I am able to record on an audiotrack into Sonar. However, when playing on the synth I don't get any midi signal and can't record my melody. HiI'm new to Sonar X3, and I can't get any sound out of it. I had a look in the input/output, and this is what I got: ASIO4ALL V2 Not Connected 1 "Not Connected" ? I assume this is the problem but since there are no other options in the list I'm not really sure how to fix it? Please help...
