Clip will not allow looping

I'm not a looper and never used the Loop Construction stuff before, so I am probably doing something stupid, but I can't seem to get a clip into Loop Construction view. I attached a picture of the clip. The context menu has the Groove clip greyed-out and the Clip inspector has no Loop check-box. But..

setting a range of controllers via percentage of change
