Dr-880 midi out into fast track ultra USB into computer into SonarX2?

Hey all, is it possible to get a midi signal from my Boss DR-880 into my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra Midi input, then USB into my computer and have Sonar X2 see that as a midi signal? Why doesn't Aim Assist show the correct location when dragging a clip?

If I have snap set to, say, 1/8th notes, the Aim Assist reading, when I'm just moving the cursor around, shows M:B:T locations which are perfectly aligned with those 1/8th notes.
