Erratic Smart Tool behavior

Is there a trick to making the Smart Tool smarter? If I am mousing over the beginning or end of a clip there is a 90% chance I want to drag it longer or shorter. AudioSnap auto crossfade option?

I am trying to use AudioSnap on a bass line. It cleans up the timing nicely, but if I solo the track I can hear a click where each note was split. I can manually crossfade each note and it goes away, but there has to be a simpler way? Thanks..

Clips acting erraticly
