Assigning samples to Akai LPD8 via Sonar

I took delivery of an AKAI LPD8 Pad Controller today and I haven't the foggiest clue how to assign a drum sample to each pad. Plugged USB in (it lights) and installed the editor. And I'm stuck. New Interface Recommendation (with 8 mic pres, plus 2 ADAT in for 24-track simultaneous)?

I'm looking for a new interface, that "plays well" with Sonar. But apparently I record way more simultaneous tracks than most of the search entries I've found. Balanced xlr or TRS cables make a huge difference!

I should have known better...So I had my DAW main line outputs connected to my powered monitors using really good 1/4" TS cords.Then, I installed TRS 1/4" to TRS 1/4" and the signal path was much louder with much less noise.That is because I went from unbalanced to balanced.
