Safe MIDI Connections?

Hi All,I've been wondering about this for years... If I have an instrument with standard MIDI connectors (you know, those DIN connectors) is it safe to connect/disconnect them while the computer is powered up? I've read that it's best to have the instrument itself powered off, but I don't recall any..
