How to enable S/PDIF out on Roland Octa Capture

My Focusrite VRM box shows an open circuit between the VRM and the Octa Capture. I don't have another unit with Digital S/PDIF so I can't try the VRM on that (I have changed cables and that didn't make any difference). It looks like S/PDIF is enabled all the time.
