Question about "WUP"?

I have a basic question about WUP? How do you know you need it? For example; I have a Native Power pack license because it was cheaper to buy it than the two plugins in the pack that I actually use. I got a notice about WUP-ping a couple months ago but I ignored it. Here is what I can't figure out....
