Cat proofing cables, any suggestions

Cat's eaten into my only USB A type to B type cable. and he has a go at them all. Any suggestions that don't included maiming him to stop this?..

Advice needed - Is this desktop good enough ?

OK, so I am just a home user looking to enjoy creating music, not a pro.I own MOTU Ethno and MOTU Symphonic and have some major limitations with my current laptop (spec in signature).I think MOTU is a big resource hog and I'm getting dropout (if I add more that two MOTU tracks it starts to dropout)...
