Question about mix bus compression

I'm aware of the benefits of using some gentle compression on the mix bus to provide a bit of "glue" to the sound and make everything work together a little better. Thoughts About Using A Tube Mic And A Tube Preamp/Compressor Together

Just wondering about this as the title says. Anyone use both together, or does it end up becoming a sonic nightmare - like it could be a new movie 'The Clash of The Tubes' .
