Recording a Bass Drum: Endless Fiddling

I'm in quest of a good bass drum sound and I'm having a devil of a time. I've got a 22" BD with a punchy sound. I think it sounds pretty good. I've added some muffling inside by way of a blanket. Red Book?

Matching Track Volume Levels on EP

Hey Guys, I'm about to cut an EP for a band I've been recording and have never done this. Say you have a typical rock band: drums, bass, 2 guits & vox... what order do you record?

I ask because I have always set up mics to record the whole band with intent to have them play together and make sure that the take we keep has a great drum track.
