Headroom Question

Hello, I know before sending my mixes out to a mastering engineer I should make sure my peaks are no higher than say -3 or -4 dbfs and that my RMS should probably be -17 to -13 dbfs depending on how dynamic the mix is. My question is - do I need to leave even additional headroom for the mixer phase?..

CANNOT get the brass sound

I'm a trombone player primarily and I'm trying to get that bright, brassy sound in my recordings that you'd find in funk music and stuff like that. What am I doing wrong?? In the video tutorial, the presenter goes past my expertise with the phrase "OK, I've converted and assigned the clip". How does one do that? The video is silent on that. When i do the rest, and drag the clip to Addictive Drums, I get a red waveform and no sound...
