[(magically) Resolved] Not recording first note when recording MIDI

So...

At long last after building my new DAW, having my house foreclosed, packing, moving most stuff to storage, setting up DAW in my new location, I'm running into a conundrum of issues... Most probably due to more personalization I need to add to the new DAw, but other things (?) are eluding me... Here's one.

Due to lack of space I'm using a little Edirol PCR-M1 controller (via USB MIDI)...
I've done my typical setup and begun to record a bass part using VSampler3 (we won't start on those issues either)
I have a 2-bar drum part which is looping and it starts at measure 2 of the project
Record is enabled and MIDI Echo is enabled
Click is set for 0 count in and during record only

I start recording at project beginning (start of measure 1 - 1 measure before drums begin so I can always catch an early trigger)
Stopping record continues to show all notes except for the first note played...

I seem to remember others speaking of such issues in the past and wondering if it's yet another tweak I dealt with long ago?

...or something else?

Any advise or ideas would be very welcome as I'm currently in scream mode with the myriad of issues I'm running into on my first attempt to create some music in my new situation...

Sorry to hear about your forced move and forced downsizing. I had a less forced move and downsize and the thing that went wrong for me is that my beloved JV-80 developed the dreaded glue drip syndrome so now some keys don't work. Oh well.

About the first note syndrome, there are some reports and scenarios where external synths don't play or respond quickly on the first note, mostly because of initial midi setup messages, but I don't think that's the scenario you're talking about.

Is this what is happening? --- you start Sonar recording at 1-1, start playing at or near 2-1, you hear the first note played/echoed on your Vsampler, but it doesn't show up in the event list? Just to be sure, you are not using any other midi tracks or sound sources that you could be hearing triggered by your controller, right? You are not using "loop record" that could be enabling record only when you first reach the loop record start point, right? Mysterious, so far.

    Thanks...

Sorry to hear about your troubles too... I hope you're fading some ways to adjust?

I was abut to post that it "magically" fixed itself? I guess I'm just having one of those days...

The little Edirol controller I'm currently trying to use is........ Trying... At first only 4 keys were transmitting midi so after some web searching I found a tutorial about fixing bad notes with a pencil... I performed the fix and now the keys work, but barely, so I'm guessing it was related to that...

I'm gonna have to find some level of real keyboard (full size, real synth keys) as this thing drives me nuts! And that's not a long drive... ;-)

Thanks for taking a moment to help...

    If only I could...

The space I'm currently in has so little space I'm restricted to a 25 key device... There isn't enough room for a 61 key...

    But thanks for the thought!
