mbox 3 crashes Sonar 8.5

I've been using Sonar 8.5 with an edirol UA-25 audio interface.  Everything has worked for years with this interface.  I just updated to the Avid mbox 3.  I open Sonar and as soon as I open a a project and it finished loading it causes my computer to default to the blue screeen and then shut down my computer.  If I pull the the usb plug on the mbox and open Sonar and a Sonar project everything is fine, except I can't record or listen to the project.  Has anyone had experience using the mbox 3 interface with Sonar 8.5?  Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the crash?  It is certainly an mbox issue but I don't know how to get around it.  Thanks.

wtf heh    almost looks like sonar is anti protools, m-audio,avid  or something heh.         I do nto have a m-box3 yet but planning on getting one in the next week or so.    i hope it's just as fluke and nothing major with it. ;)

I'm not sure if it is Sonar or mbox 3 but it is supposed be Sonar supported.  I've even updated the drivers but that hasn't helped.  Every once in awhile I can open a project but 95% of the time it causes my system to go down.  Hopefully, someone here has some ideas.

At this point I haven't heard back from Cakewalk tech support or Avid tech support so I may just go back to using the edirol

Not to pass the buck, but BSOD's are the result of driver malfunctions. IOW, the problem is the MBox3. If your UA-25 was working fine then I would just stick with that.

FWIW, I am under the impression that although Avid has made their hardware to work with 3rd party apps, they don't officially support it.

Thanks Seth.  Hopefully Guitar Center will take it back.

I'm sure they will as its an audio interface. And again, I'm not trying to pass the blame but it is what it is. If you really like the hardware, though, of course check for any driver updates that might resolve the conflict. But at least you have a solid interface in the UA-25EX that doesn't BSOD.

I'll pass the buck back to you. I had some BSODs with Sonar and a MOTU 2408mk3. Since MOTU support was not helpful at all, I sent the info to Cakewalk. Turns out that while it was in fact a problem with the MOTU driver, it was also a bug in Sonar that exposed the flaw in that driver.

So yes, BSODs are caused by drivers, but a Sonar bug is quite capable of causing the driver to BSOD.

Yeh, I never officially heard back from Cakewalk but as Seth stated it is probably the driver but of course Avid says it is a Sonar issue.   Really it is my issue as I am the one who can't work.  Guitar Center won't take it back because the interface comes with software  and it is their policy not to accept returns on anything that comes with software.  They are the ones ones who recommended it for Sonar.  AND of course their stance is that it will work I just have to figure it out.  So again, I guess the buck does always come back to me. :(

gawd I hope so,  I just ordered a m-box pro W/ pt8  so I can get on this pile of unfinished work X1 has left me holding.      I hope X1b fixes everything up or I'm afraid it's going to the kiddie computer.
