midi files sparatic playback

Hello, I am new to this list. I am having trouble with playing back midi files. I am using a MOTU Fastlane interface, Sonar 8.5 producer and a Motif ES synth. All ports are selected correctly etc and I can get the file to play however, there are random notes and noises that are not within the events list. These interuptions happen at no particular time or beat etc. I have no issue playing these files through an older machine through the same outboard gear. I have re-installed drivers for the interface as well. I would be happy to hear any suggestions for this issue.

Thanks

What happens if you play the files using the TTS-1?

The TTS1 works fine with none of the sparatic notes or interuptions. I am pretty sure that there is a setting some place that is not correct as I can use the same midi interface and keyboard on another computer that plays the patches from the keyboard's synth with no problems. I just haven't a clue what I should try to change. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

When you say you re installed the drivers, Did you get them directly from the Motu web site? Might be your drivers are not correct for the newer system and that's why it worked on the old one.

Did you try a different DAW? There are free demos of most you could try including X3.

Did you try different cables?
Are you using a USB 3 port?  try a USB 2 port.

Also try increasing your MIDI buffers, I have mine at 750.

Try setting the Motif to MIDI channel 2 and adjust your track's channel accordingly. If the extraneous notes stop, then somehow another track is getting routed to the Motif at the same time.

If they are truly random, then you may have an issue with a bad cable or USB port (assuming you're connected to the synth via USB). If it's not really random, and there is a particular spot during playback that you hear a consistent bogus note, check the Event List to see if there is a corresponding event there. Make sure there aren't any unwanted sysex dumps or patch change events in the MIDI track.

Another question: did you create this MIDI track yourself or did you download it from somewhere? If the latter, there can be all kinds of wonky stuff in the MIDI data.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
