midi output vanishes?
Periodically, I lose the output of a midi instrument track. Sometimes a restart of X1 fixes it, but other times the only way forward is to create a new instrument track and copy the midi data to it. Splitting the instrument track doesn't improve things. I searched the forum and saw that sometimes X1 switches the output buss and thought perhaps that was my problem. However, the track was not routed, as far as I could tell to any other buss besides master. I went ahead and deleted all busses except master and the problem remained. I can see the meter moving when I play the track, but no sound. I hear sound from my other tracks. Interestingly, if I freeze the track, the resulting audio track has no audio. Anyone know what could be going on? Thanks. Thanks, Charley

I have a similar thing happen. I loose the sound from a synth.... IIRC the meters are still moving but there is no sound. I believe it was just the synth that was lost, and the audio tracks continued along just fine. And yeah, bouncing doesn't solve it. This has not happened in quite a while, although I have not been using many synths in the projects I have been working on recently either. The only solution I have found is to reboot the computer and my interface... a complete shut down and restart .... so I'm thinking it has something to do with the communication between the 2 being interrupted. I have also.... once or twice .... managed to some how mute the master buss without realizing it..... duhhhhh. This doesn't happen all the time even when I work in heavy synth projects. I'm easy going so a break for a few minutes to allow a reboot is a good excuse to make a kitchen run, stretch the legs, hit the bathroom and when I get back, it's ready to rock again.

Just want to make sure you have the Input Echo button (always on). and ALL the tracks with that synth on Solo (especially if you cloned one). Sometimes its just that these get turned off and you forget to check.

If its project wide be sure the audio engine is on.

Perhaps delete everything like you've done and screenprint it with all the settings visible. Must be a reason.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will get a screen print the next time it happens. I am certain that input echo was on as I toggled it to make sure that wasn't the root cause. The master bus wasn't muted as I heard all the audio tracks and I removed all other busses. I also made sure to have the tracks with the synth on solo. Unfortunately, the problem is not project wide. Some individual instrument tracks get the problem while other instrument tracks worked correctly. Regards, Charley

Happened to me a couple of times... seems to be an audio issue, not a midi one. I took a look at my audio interface control panel while this was happening, and noticed those channels were grayed out. Closing X1 and restarting my audio interface fixed the problem. My plan for later today: - Make sure Windows isn't putting any devices to sleep that it perceives to be on standby
- Disable all the on board sound/video (motherboard stuff) in case it's causing confusion
Will report back...

Thanks, Charley FWIW, Simple Instrument Tracks are known to be a bit buggy and I no longer use them, always favouring split Audio/Midi tracks as a matter of course. You can see the meter moving, ok, but which meter? the audio one or the Midi one? If it's the audio meter that's moving then you have a simple routing problem, nothing more. If the Midi one is moving then you need to check the inputs & outputs of the Midi track
