midi plays back ahead of where it's intended

At the beginning of my project when i recorded any midi it would play back just the way i played it but now that the project has progressed with several synths accompanied with midi tracks, any new midi I record seem to always be playing back ahead of where i tried to record it (until I quantize). Any thoughts?

Please zip and attach your Project folder in a private message to me and I will take a look at this and try to debug it for you.  Please do not include any audio tracks.

Have you adjusted the time offset in any of the tracks?

Are the timing discrepancies of a consistent length or do they vary from note to note?

Constant Bristol, but it might be that I've got two instances of Beverb on buses while I'm still tracking, I'll check that theory when I get home

If they're consistent it suggests to me it's related to plugin delay compensation

Try recording something again but before you hit R, bypass all your Fx (hit E)

Yeah Bristol, that's what I was thinking with the Breverb

It does sound like one of the plugs is causing that delay. Bypass them all as suggested and then add them back one at a time to find the offender.

Remember, you can always freeze the tracks to audio and that will remove the VST or FX from the processing loop once you get the track data/notes correct.

Mastering style plugins (eg Ozone, TRacks) on the master bus can cause various midi timing weirdness here, turning the plugs off removes the problem.

There was a problem in cubase that many experienced in different ways. For me I think it was midi was out of time by about half a second...

The solution was to find the checkbox in the configuration menu's that said:
    USE SYSTEM TIMESTAMP.

Is there anything like that in sonar?

I've seen timing issues pop into a project when I throw in some new plugs on the run... but what you described is strange..... you are saying the midi plays AHEAD of where it's supposed to be. Everything else is delayed?

That's the idea Herb, it's a little better when I bypass the effects. It's not a huge deal. I quantize everything anyway and then manipulate the notes in the PRV. ( I may just suck a little with my timing, I'm a terrible keyboard player)
