midi question from bad/lazy keyboardist

K, don't laugh but I'm more a guitarist (not very good) but sometimes need to do my own key/piano parts. I know basic chords and can plonk with practice and a chord dictionary but is there a midi note filter I can do or buy that I can program in the chord/key structure and it will filter out bad scale notes as I play? Yaya I know, practice more, but just askin' is all. Thanks.

There is a midifilter built into Sonar, called Midi Event Filter.
You'll find it if you right-click in the FX bin of a miditrack, under midieffects.

Look at the piano roll as it plays ...learn or write down scales and go from there.

Are you randomly playing what sounds good, but want to be sure.

All artists hit bum notes , if the fit with the song...they are probably ok... If they are really unacceptable they will stand out like a sore thumb, research those notes.

Use the pianoroll view. Assuming you know the notes on the piano (if not, what are you doing here?!?-Just kidding), you play what you want to play and then go through the piano roll view of the track and just click on and delete the "bad" notes. Easy as cake. ("No, that's easy as pie!" 2010).

YOu could always have the guitar fretboard view on show for the notes and make your judgement calls by viewing the track played via this. Quite tricky.

Slow the tempo down to scan

     Yes.
