.midi to .mid

Hi

I own Melodyne and thought it would be interesting to try the audio to midi converter. Within Melodyne, this saves the converted audio as a .midi file, but Sonar won't open it. I notice that the midi content that comes with Sonar is in .mid format rather than .midi

Is there a way to convert .midi to .mid or am I missing something here?

Thanks.

I've never heard of a .midi file.  I wonder, why would Melodyne have a feature that didn't use the conventional file extension .mid?

    Hi Marshall-

It saves as a .mid file here and opens fine. Do you have the latest version (although I don't ever remember it writing a .midi file)?

It should be a standard MIDI file anyway, so you can try just renaming the extension to remove the trailing 'i' and see if SONAR will load it.

I believe they are the same file format.  Just edit the name to end in .mid

it should be fine , the only thing I can think the issue would be the extension or the association set up with it (maybe to another program).. odd that it's having such issues

in dos / command prompt it's just a case of using the "ren" command

if you don't know your way around dos , probably windows explorer would do it or this

File names are editable in Windows Explorer without using a special application.
And dos / command prompt is not needed either.

    Just edit the name.

Thanks guys - that has solved it. The question was prompted because Sound on Sound have published a favourable review of a new midi guitar this month.

    http://www.yourockguitar.com/products/you-rock-guitar

It looks like a toy, but apparently it works well, and it retails in the UK for £129. That said, the audio to midi function in Melodyne worked pretty well on the admittedly simple guitar part I experimented with.
