midi/Audio Problem.

This is weird and I am out of ideas. I have an older setup running Sonar 3 Pro, an Echo Mia card and a Soundblaster Live for midi output. This has all worked great for years. My hard drive crashed and I ended up getting a different computer running XP Pro x64 (my old system was xp home). This new computer has a Soundmax card and GS Wavetable synth (or something like that). By using ASIO drivers, I can utilize the soundmax for midi and the mia for audio. OK, here's the problem - when I run a midi track through the soundmax, all is fine, but when I insert a soft synth (such as Sampletank) and feed the midi track through it, the audio comes out a bit ahead of the rest of the midi tracks still running through the soundmax. I cannot figure out how to sync the midi and audio so I don't have to move the audio track to match the midi. Any ideas are appreciated.

It's not really all that weird. You can't use an on board sound card with Sonar and ASIO drivers.
It is always recommended that you disable the on board card to prevent a conflict.
Under ASIO you can only have one audio device. Use the Mia only.

No one uses the on board MIDI sounds anymore, you use soft synths period.

If you need MIDI input from a keyboard/controller then you need either a audio interface that has MIDI inputs or use a USB controller.

CM, Thanks for the response. I was starting to suspect I was SOL. My mia doesn't have midi so it has always been nice to have onboard sounds easy to get to, but I guess I can set up one of my softsynths in my template file and midi tracks output there. Thanks much!

Did Sonar 3 come with the TTS-1?
That's the standard GM 16 channel synth that will play most GM files straight up.  I went through the same transition as you years ago.  I was using Home Studio. I too had a Soundbalaster which was ASIO and used sound fonts which were not bad. But soundblasters don't get along with Sonar.
I had trouble when I started in with Sonar 7 and the folks on the forum set me straight and I've never looked back. Once you use Soft Synths  there's no turning back again. You might want to upgrade as the newer versions of Sonar come with a lot of free synths.

No, 3 didn't have TTS-1, if fact, this is the first I've heard of it. I guess it's maybe time to look into an upgrade. TX.

I don't think you'll get X1 or X2 to run properly on XP Pro x64 - you'll need to upgrade the OS to Win 7 (or 8)
