mixer terms question

Are control room out, stereo aux return and main out technically same outs and can be used interchangeable in setup?
thanks

    Stereo aux return is an input not an output. Main out and control room out are independent of each other so that they can have different mixes sent to each, kind of like a monitor output is different from the main mix. Hope that helps.

    ......and in addition to M@B's answer you can usually monitor anything from the control room so can assign the main outs (usually via a PFL button) to it but it is a separate buss.

    Typical connections would be.............

    Main Outs->FOH PA or in a studio environment can be used as a feed back to the live room
    Control Room->Engineers monitors/headphones
    Effects processor outputs->Stereo Aux returns (is one use)

    thanks guys, basically I m trying to figure out my mixer outs so I could use 2 of them use independently.
    I'd like to have one out to go directly to power monitors and the other to go into VS100 inputs.

    Does it have a manual? If not look it up on the mfg's web site and DL it.

    The manual usually splains all that stuff and even has block diagrams to show signal flow inside the beast.

    Ideally, for your intention, you'd want to feed your powered monitors with the main out/stereo out and if your mixer has individual channel outs (or inserts) you would use those to feed the vs100. ------------ Otherwise, in a pinch, you could use the channel sends to feed the vs100, depending on how many sends your mixer has and how many things you want to record simultaneously to separate tracks. -------- EDIT: I use another mixer in addition to the VS100 also, although i dont feed the vs100 with it. When I track something in Sonar, i connect directly to the vs100. I have the outputs of the vs100 connected to two of the other mixer's inputs, one panned hard left and the other hard right. The main outs of the 2nd mixer then feed the speakers. This way I get to plug all of my other audio devices into the other mixer like a cd player, dvd audio out, tv audio out, etc. I find it to very convenient that way.

    hey that's very good idea I think I'll do like you do with that other mixer.
    For recording with Sonar no sense I guess to go through additional hardware
    but I wanted to avoid switching cables.
