mixing with "outboard" hardware

Hello, I'm using X1c-Prod and the V-Studio100 with current Roland drivers. I'd like to send the lead vocal track out of the box to be processed by hardware and then return back into Sonar to monitor or record the wet signal. I've never done this yet, but it seems to be pretty straightforward, though I don't know what to expect as far as latency, etc. Does anyone have any advice before I give this a go? Thanks.

I do the same thing a lot.  yOu can line it up by hand.  If it is rhythm stuff it is pretty easy to see the beats.  If it is vocals etc. the feel is more important than precision, but it is still pretty obvious where to line up.

If you line up the vocal solo both the org and treated one until you lose the phase problems.

I don't use a VS-100 but I do have a A&H ZED-R16 which I've used to do the odd track with. Timing for me seems to be an non-issue there is a "Record latency Adjustment" setting in Preferences->Audio->sync & caching which I assume is what is sorting out the audio for me.

Just to clarify though I send the track out to a channel on the ZED & re-record the result back into the same track on a different layer, I'm not using 'external insert' in any way.

I haven't used external insert since I got the ZED but there used to be a ping facility on it to help adjust latency with.

Thanks @. I assume the buffer should be set as far towards minimum as it can be w/o glitching?...................... What I'm really trying to do is program my live vocal effects processor by using a recorded vocal track so i don't have to sing while i tweak, that's such a pita. I guess i don't really have to return into sonar to do that. Would I not have to deal with latency if i just playback from sonar and monitor the music and vocals through an outboard mixer?

Thanks Fast, I wasn't sure if Sonar had a latency compensator, thanks for suggesting that. Hopefully, it will be a non issue here as well.
