[more dilemmas...] Sonar 8.5 X64, New computer, now: VST bugs??

Hi all...
[Edit]: More questions further down, look at my 3d post...
hehe, I thought i just had my share of digital related problems with a recently crashed computer etcetc... Well i have spent the last week's free hours in setting up a new one, with windows 7 64 bit (i was, until now, on windows XP 32 bit).

To be honest, i have had 100 questions so far, but a lot is of course related to me, being a newbie in the world of 64-bit-related issues... I now have learned that there is no Rewire support, and some of my old DXi-synths simply dont open either... well i can live with that, as far as i know "WHY" it doesnt open...

Anyway, here's the issue of this afternoon: I finally got Sonar 8.5 X64 running fairly properly with a fresh install of "everything" on this brand new computer. BUT when i open Dimension Pro (which is part of the 4-DVD Sonar 8.5 package), dim pro doesnt find ANY of the multisample files. During the installation i can choose the sample destination folder, (right!), and so i did (i did not use the default folder for samples, i put my samples on "hard drive #2") ...

So, i guess my question is: How do i tell Dimension pro where it shall look for the samples? As it obviously didnt make it right during the installation. I dont see a word on this (simple?) subject in the manual?

***

Lol, i find it a bit strange, but as said, ive been running through so many small issues the last days so im not surprised no more... Frankly speakin, Ive been around since Sonar 3, but THIS has been the most troublefilled upgrade ive done so far... and its not even an upgrade (i have ran 8.5 some months...), its a change of computer and operative...

Hmm, maybe i shall say "sorry" for bothering... i actually found the answer myself:

I MUST run Sonar "as administrator" to get Dim Pro to work in 64 bit. And there was a 1.2 updating patch as well.

    Thanx...

Hey... Does the 64 bit thing sound different? It was a few weeks since i opened Sonar but i dont really recognize the sound... Freudian placebo or is there really difference?

Hmm... i keep on typing in the same thread, and i guess i shall rename it to something more clever.

    Next dilemma:

I have "always" used the BLOCKFISH compressor from www.digitalfishphones.com. And i want to continue to use that brilliant VST. But now, together with Sonar X64, it behaves very strange:

First: The "Menu line" (where i now find <on/off>, <presets>, <file>, and earlier(?) hosted the "save" and more buttons) now looks "greyed out"... it's like... something is missing there? Do you guys understand what i look for? i can of course put up some screendumps.

Then, and this is the important bug: When i change settings, turn a knob or choose some preset, it just dont keep it. After a change i press "play - stop - play", and Sonar CHANGES the VST settings? Same if i open the VST - do some changes - close the VST - open it again... and it is NOT how i just changed the buttons????????

ehh, is it like this for more VST-s? Everything that is 32 bit??

You might try the jbridge product as a bridge to 32-bit stuff. Some VSTs work better with that then the bitbridge shipped with Sonar.

jbridge is not free, but very cheap.

Sonar has built in support for jbridge, just put a checkmark i pluginmanager.

Dim Pro actually has a 1.5 update.
Dim Pro 1.5 is 64 bit.
If Dim Pro and your multisamples are already installed then open the load file dialog in DP and press F5 to refresh the list, if that doesn't work then you'll need to do a registry edit to point to the folder/drive where they are located.

How about reading the Op's postings

It was a UAC issue with DP.

Thank you guys for taking your time to answer.

Ifm, @bitbridge/jbridge ... i must take a look at jbridge. And, as im new to the whole X64-thing, i tried to read some about Sonar bitbridge (user manual etc), but im not sure i fully understood. Shall i - as a user - do any "setup thing" with bitbridge at all? I understood that it is Sonar's built in "translator" for handling 32 bits VST-s in a 64 bit system, but im not sure if its active at all when i havent done a thing to handle it? hmm, again, i hope i express myself clear.

mudgel: Thanx for pointing my attention to the DP 1.5 upgrade/patch... im not sure how i missed that in the first place, but i surely did! I will try it, then maybe Sonar+Dimension Pro works without the "run as admin"-workaround...

I actually thought that DP 1.2 was 64 bit, but ... i was wrong?

Still confused, but things are getting a liiiiittle clearer... You know how it is, when not being sure if there are really system/program/hardware bugs or if its just me handling stuff for the first time...

    And excuse my swenglish
    Cheers!
