motherboard video interface

Some new PC's I am considering have a video interface on the motherboard. The new PC's that I am considering, with this feature, will be used for electronic music applications only (e.g. Sonar, SW synthesizers, etc.), which are not graphics intensive.

Can I get by successfully using the onboard video adapter, thereby freeing up an expansion slot?

thanks

Keith

onboard video is generally not an issue.

some plug ins like Waves however need a good video card
worst case you run across something then add a video card.

A lot of on-board video chips have no video ram, and take their ram from the system ram, as a "shared" resource.

Having as much system ram for multi-track recording etc; is quite important.  You may suffer latency lag if you have a mother board video chip that hogs ram.

Try to buy a separate "and cheapset" Video card, as they all have their own Video Ram.
