multiple tracks - one line

IS there a product (which i believe there is) that takes your one in-line (mic) port and makes it into multiple ones... that way you can have your guitar... your mics... and maybe something else all going into the one microphone port on your computer, but coming up as multiple tracks on music creator. This would definitely help!

And... if i were to take a guitar and put it through an amp, maybe a pedal or two... and then into a track in the music creator... will it sound like it should or not. I'm trying to figure out if i should get this product or not, cause i need it to be able to do those things. thanks for anyones comments!

To sum it up, nope. You could get a mixer and then run multiple inputs into your line-in, but that still only gives you stereo. I'd go to sweetwater.com and do some research on audio interfaces. It'll cost a bit, but will be very rewarding if you're serious.

As to your second question, it depends on your rig. Running it through the amp and pedals in MC will sound exactly like running it through the amp and pedals in windows sound recorder. I'd record it in that and see how that sounds.

    Hope this helps,

Actually, yes you can do that - with a mixer or with a multiple input soundcard. For instance, I record one instrument at a time but I have a 6 channel mixer. I plug mics into two inputs, electric guitar in another, and acoustic guitar in another. The output of the mixer goes to the line in and I can create a new track for each instrument/vocal/loop. This works great if you record one instrument at a time.

Now, if you want to record a band in real time, you need a soundcard that has multiple inputs and software that allows multichannel recording. Music Creator Pro may be able to do this - you'll have to check 'cause I'm too lazy.

And... if i were to take a guitar and put it through an amp, maybe a pedal or two... and then into a track in the music creator... will it sound like it should or not. It should, or you can use a POD or any other simulator. You can even get software amp sims that you can plug into Music Creator.

but coming up as multiple tracks on music creator

That's why I said what I did. You could look into a digital card like the EMU 1212m and run a Behringer ADA8000 into it. That'd give you 8 consecutive tracks. I believe ADAT splits a max of 8 tracks and S/PDIF only splits to two, but I'm not positive.

I hear ya' Joe, the only reason I gave my $0.02 is because I wasn't sure if he meant to record simultaneously or one instrument at a time.

    Peace on Earth.

To add another .02c worth, ( I believe that makes a total of .06c worth so far.) you need to look at several things, the program and the interface. MC only allow two inputs at a time, even though it will do many tracks. MCPro does 4 inputs, and Home studio and Sonar will do as many as the interface allows.

As was mentioned a E-MU 1212 card with a ADAT or Lightpipe interface will do as many as 8 per ADAT plug ini believe.

Another way is to get a Delta 1010 card and then you have 10 inputs from a standard card setup.

There are USB and Firewire interfaces, that do multiples, but one needs to address the interface and the software at the same time.

But again as was said if you just want to do multiple tracks yet input them one at a time then any card will do and any softare as well.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

I got $.30 in my pocket, but I need that to stay officially not broke, so... I'll throw in another 2 to make it an even 10. Let's call it a Christmas present.
