multi-track recording for 8 year old

Hi Guys,
my boss at work has an eight year old son which is a wiz at the piano and with computers.

Does anyone know of some very simple
multi-track recording software which he could use to lay a few (upto 4) tracks down?

It's would be nice if he could start getting his feet wet, preferably with free-ware.

reaper is free. computer music produce a free studio app i think it's on the cover dvd each month or may be downloadable. but if he is a computer whizz then why not just create a small template in sonar with instruments pre-loaded? or are you worried incase his songs are gonna be better than urs???!!!!!!!!

well i presume you have some software already? if it's CW you can put it on a 2nd pc no prob, the licence says it's ok as long as the two aren't used at the same time...i have never used reaper but it's supposed to be fairly intuitive, and anyway, if he's never used a music app before he won't be expecting anything.
another idea: download some demos of existing software.

Reaper is very easy to use IMHO.

I'm becoming a big fan of that sequencer. As soon as I discovered you could install it on a USB flash drive then I tried it out. If there's one feature thats changed the way I work then that's it - I can now sit at my day job and mock up ideas before plugging it into any other Windows machine to continue at a later time.

Others have suggested Reaper, but I think that's WAY too complex for someone starting out. Heck, if he right clicks on anything, he'll think that he hit the 4th layer of h3ll or something!!!



(FYI: In Reaper, you can pretty much configure EVERYTHING via right clicking it)

No problemo sir, however, I have just noted that the kristal website has gone dead since I posted my original message. If you do a google search for "kristal audio" you'll find some functional download links which will have to suffice until the main kristal page comes back online.

Also, don't forget to load up on free vst effects! As a starter, I'd suggest the "Kjaerhus Classic series", the "GVST" plugs, and the free vsts offered by Voxengo, some of which are really good and have a really easy user interface to learn by.
