Yes MC5 will do that. You need to go tooptioons midi devices and choose the Roland UA-25EX as the midi in and out. Then open up a new project and choose normal. This will give you an audio and a midi track to play with. Arm the midi track, and hit record and play some notes on the keyboard. It should record the midi data in the track. Next unarm the track, and hit play, and set the synth to receive and see what happens. Make sure that the midi out of the keyboard is attached to the midi in of the roland box. If you want the computer speakers to play the sounds rather than the Keyboards speakers, you need to do one of two things, either route the keyboards audio output jack to the sound cards input (risking latency) or use a soft synth to replay the midi data.

You can also visit my web site>>>>> music & recording page. Follow the instructions there for setting up TTS...a software synth. Instead of choosing focusrite, use the interface you have... set it up first as ROBO suggested. Robs method will play back through the synth..... mine will play back internally in the computer. There are several ways to do this depending on what you want to achieve.

Right. You can record the notes you play on your synthesizer into a MIDI track, but that won't record the sound of your synthesizer. To record the sound of your synthesizer, you need to connect audio cables from the synthesizer's audio output to the computer sound card's line in. I do that all the time. Record the MIDI notes, edit the MIDI notes (sometimes I hit the wrong key, or my timing is off a little {sometimes a lot }, then set up an audio track, arm, hit record and the program will record the audio output of the keyboard as the MIDI track plays. My brother the programmer used a micro Korg for awhile, but decided to buy an M-Audio Axiom 49, since the Korg didn't have velocity-sensitive keys.

handy - instead of us walking you thru every step, I would like to suggest that you work thru the tutorials included with MC5 and then come back and ask specific questions if you don't understand something they're having you do. the step by step instructions are already included with MC5 in the tutorials, so having us tell you the same thing is kind of redundant and time consuming for us when it is already within your grasp. open the help files and there's a link on the front page of help that says GETTING STARTED and then there are also tutorials 1 thru 10 (I believe) for you to work thru. as far as connecting the korg to the soundcard - for connecting it to record your sounds from the korg (not MIDI) then you simply need an instrument cable to connect from the output of the korg (there will be a L and R output, use the Left output for MONO or both for stereo) and connect that to your soundcard input. then you'll have to set up an audio track to record it (and ARM it!) but again - setting up audio tracks for recording and arming the tracks is all covered step by step in the tutorials. if you don't understand specific instructions, don't hesitate to ask, but having you read thru the tutorials and ask if you don't understand something there is much better for all of us.

Arm means to press the Arm button on the track, this sets that track to respond to the record command on the transport bar. Really you need to do what Beagle suggested and run thru the tutorials you wil need a basic understanding of the buttons and features or it will be painstakingly slow just to get started. One thing to keep in mind is that this is really not much different than an old fashioned tape recorder. It has a play button and a record button on, plus rewind and such. The difference is that it records both audio sound and midi data, and since it has multiple tracks you need to tell the system which track you want to record. So each track has an arm button. Other than that you just need to make sure that you understand the difference between midi and audio. Audio is actual sound waves like a guitar or a voice, and is recorded by line in or microphone. Midi is information and is recorded or entered by synthesizer keyboard, staff view notation input or what is called Piano roll input. Going thru the tutorials will give you a small working understanding of a few of the processes. Then we can help fill in the gaps.
