    Hi, welcome to the forum.
This is a user forum and the Cakewalk staff rarely make appearances here, so maybe you can try emailing Cakewalk support with your critique.
If you have a specific problem, describe it and maybe we can help you.

Just ranting I guess.... here's the facts....

    Technically that is true.

In practice maybe not so much. You see, there is a learning curve with Music Creator. When I first hooked up my computer and installed MC, it took me a bit of time to understand what I needed to do. A few months back I built a new DAW and reinstalled the software on it. I was up and running in minutes...just like the software claims.... for one simple reason.... I now knew what to do.

Ask questions, be nice when asking because this is, as Greg pointed out, a user forum...we are not cake staffers here.

    Now...... your question ?

I've bought many a programs, and I thought this one was a good one, maybe it is, but somehow or another I don't seem to get along with it.

I knew there was a strong learning curve. Its on a level way above Sony Vegas and lots of other programs.

I believe I don't have all the files I'm supposed to have. This was the download version, I d/l from cakewalk for 34 and change.

Is there someway I can determine if I have all the required files. I have a list of what is on the pc but it is way  too long to post here.
    Thanks

Here is a bird's eye view of what you should expect to see.
    http://www.cakewalk.com/products/musiccreator/specs.asp

Note the tutorials are not included in the download, but are available at the online owner's page.
Is there a specific problem you are having?
Setup, configuration, using functions, soft synths, etc?
For the type of program it is, Music Creator is fairly straightforward, but if you are in unfamiliar territory, it may not be as intuitive as the blurb would suggest.
Tell us what you have done so far, and please list your system specs.
it will help us help you.

    It's problematic....yes.
Saying you don't need any previous recording experience doesn't exclude the need of reading manuals and doing tutorials for two months before you can actually record...

No DAW add on earth mentions the need of a proper soundcard, either.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

    [size=2 font="times new roman"]Hi,

Yes, Music Creator is[and will be] frustrating but if you download the tutorials from Cakewalk.com/Owners/MusicCreator5 and 'have a stab at it' until you 'hit a brick wall' then let the folks here know what it is you are doing and where you are stuck, they will try to guide you through the problem.  I know I can't make head nor tails of the manuals myself but the people here will [re]write in plain terms if that is what you need.

    Regards to all,

    Vincent.

Sure would be nice if folks would say stuff like " I downloaded this and i can't get any sound, or It will not open , i seem to get a rash when i record", or whatever, but it does not work is really hard to help with.

Ok let's be serious here for a moment. I also am trying to figure out what to do, so I guess I will post here. I can't figure out how to pull up the instruments (in program, not separate) and record from there, without having to plug in my own instuments. I did the whole tutorial as much as i could, and looked into the faq guide under help. Still puzzled as to how to actually PLAY the instruments in the program, and record the sound once I have the notes and chords I need. any help?

i have no idea what play the instruments means, but let me take a wild guess. Do you mean make a sound or get a note to play? There are no instruments in the program. You do have however some synthesizers that will reproduce midi notes. If you did the tutorials and got no sound, then you need to learn to add syhtns to the midi files so you can hear them.

Go up two post to Guitarhackers website link and then go to MC 4 & 5 tips and you will read the information on adding softsynths. First open a tutorial and then follow Herbs directions.

Yeah... let me expand on this post..... bored.... nothing else to do.

Follow the directions on my web site to get the INSTRUMENT inserted in the project.

Instruments that play themselves do exist BUT... they offer little control over certain parameters. Most people do play the guitar or a keyboard fairly well so they use those to input the music (guitar) or keyboard (Music or data) into an audio track or in the case of the Cakewalk Soundcenter instruments..... a midi source track.

To record: get the instrument set up (inserted) and working properly. Then simply arm the track and press start.... start playing. The program will record the notes you play. When you play it back, you should hear the music you just played.....

it not.... well, post here and tell us all the details.

It really helps if you are using an external sound card or otherwise called an interface, as opposed to using the built in factory sound card..... they are horrible...... latency and other issues... so if yo plan to do this much, you'll want an interface.

Right. To 'record' in the old-fashioned way like on a tape machine, you need a real instrument. Connect your MIDI keyboard with MIDI cables and/or audio cables, or plug in a guitar or microphone.
You can't actually play and record any instruments in MC, they just make the sound using MIDI data you input using either the Piano Roll view (PRV) or Staff view. Or input in real time with a MIDI keyboard.
You can also drag and drop audio and MIDI clips into the tracks, but that's not really recording. The audio should play, but any MIDI clips or loops you drag into a track will need to play through a synthesizer of some kind, either a hardware synth or software synth, if you want to hear it.
