mute/unmute and other tools. split etc. will not work on clip

There are a few clips in one of my projects that will not respond at all to the mute tool.  what causes that? It also won't split  What is it about those clips?
 

ASRock Z97 Pro 4 Motherboard

    Region Fx? Audiosnap? Locked clips?
     
    Bounce the clip to itself and try again.

    Thanks guys.  I made it stop by going to the edit filter in the track  and turning automated mute on and off.  Why that did anything?  I don't know.   but thanks so much

    By the way,  how is that AMD Phenom II working out for you? And you are using the presonus as your interface?
