my Black Canyon Kayak trip

a self guided trip, 12 miles down the colorado river, you put in just below the Hoover dam, it's an impressive spot to put in.

Did this trip with wife and brother in law, at thanksgiving while hanging in vegas.

we went on several hikes up adjacent slot canyons along the way, went in several hot springs, saw tons of birds, and a pair of falcons, one shows up flying overhead at the end of the video.

we rented kayaks from kayaklasvegas, they take you and your rig into secure areas below the dam, drop you off, and you are on your own.
it's a way cool trip, highly recommended.

    it was.
a bit tiring, but worth the effort.

temps were perfect, water was perfect, low wind, blue sky

Great video. Looks like a great time.

It looks really good for being shot a thousand years ago. ;)

Nice. And nice job on the video. As CraigB alluded, almost looks like a promotion video.

    Few questions:
    1. Do they pick you up at the end?
    2. How long do they allow you to get there? Day trip, overnight?
    3. Do the kayaks have back support?
    4. I assume its bring your own (food, water, beer, etc).

    Broken pencils are pointless.

yes, it was a go pro.
my brother in law had i mounted to his paddleboard.....
he's been paddleboarding his whole life, literally, grew up on a lake...
and he could lap us TWICE in our kayaks....! LOL

    1. yes, go to the link for the map, it shows the stations and the pickup spot.
    2. they allow camping, overnights, multi day, but we were only doing the day trip.
since it was thanksgiving, we got an extra hour and half  to play with, that's why we did all the hikes.
    3. you can rent several different styles. ours had seats. they were Old Town Otters, you can google them.
    4. yes, you bring your own. we rented dry bags (did not bring our own on the trip) and stuffed them with 'goodies'.

    trip:
the trip we did was a day trip.

if you lived there and had your own kayak or paddleboard you can actually put in at the take out, for free, paddle up stream to the dam, turn around and come back down.

here's a link where we got our gear:
    http://www.kayaklasvegas.com/

    they have lots of options.

our group that put in, was only 8 strong....
3 guys together, another 2 guys, and our group of 3....

everyone else took off immediately, but we went to the very first hot springs.....

went inside, took some grainy video, after it cooked our brains, we came out, and our boats were now deep in the water because the dam had done another release, the water level rose, and they had warned us to always pull our boats up out of the water and tie them off......
and we, being cocky out of towners, said 'eh'......

and sure enough, in the video, as we're walking across the rocks back to our kayaks, you see how far out into the water they are...
i don't show the whole clip, but you can hear us all chuckling at our mistake (and good luck) that the paddleboard had been heavy enough to weigh the one kayak down, and the other had more or less stayed put.

    LOL

needless to say, we did not leave the boats like that again.

we did 3 canyon hikes, and 3 hot spring pools, which has some deadly amoeba in it that they warn you not to get 'in your nose'!!
    - About 130F and 100% humidity.

"Warning - Naegleria fowleria, an amoeba common to thermal pools may be present and could enter through the nose causing a rare infection and death. Do not dive into pools, splash water, or submerge your head."

the rest of the day, we were all singing "VIVA...... AMOEBA" , in our best elvis voice.

Cool - my good lady and I presented each other with SOT Kayaks for christmas.  We live very close to two large reservoirs, but I'm really looking forward to taking them to the coast and doing some surfing.
