my "lifetime" update now says valid thru 12/24/2037

I guess 20+ years in the software business is a "lifetime"  :-D  Wasn't in a hurry, but didn't want to forget and slip past the 8/31/16 deadline for the upgrade deal.
thx Cake, wonderful product.... In fact, I'm on break typing this spew-age...and need to get back to recording!

Well, I hate for you to find out this way... but that is actually when you die. Sonar isn't the only advanced technology Cakewalk has, they also have a death clock.

:D

It says that on all of them, I'm guessing it has to do with the size of whatever variable they use to store that information. Since "forever" wasn't an option originally they just set it to maximum. At some point in the future they may change it, but then there's not really any rush given that they've got over a decade :D.

<geek warning="on">

sycraft has probably nailed it. There is a computing issue known as the 2038 date problem. Operating systems that use signed 32 bit integers to represent the date as seconds since 1/1/1970 run out of numbers in early 2038.

But on a more serious note,
I hope we are all still using cakewalk something. Think of the advancements Sonar has made in the past 5 years alone with the X series. Love it or hate, you have to appreciate the way we are able to sculpt our music.

There was a brief moment back in the early 1990's when I thought there was no way someone could work exclusively in a digital environment. I had that same feeling again in early 2005 when I sold my Tascam MSR 16. Truth be, we are doing things now I never imagined (except electronic cut/copy/paste, I knew that was coming).
The achievements we have over come in the past decade, I cant imagine what it will be like in 2037.

Hopefully my grandchildren can finally get one of my mixes perfect.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

Y2K was huge for the economy here. Everybody bought into it and spent big bucks on massive generators and ups systems. My best yearly income to date came in '99. I guess we'll never know if it was real but people bought in to it. When nothing happened at midnight the 'experts ' explained that it was a good thing people listened to them. It really was win,win either way for them. Bring on Y2K38 for kiddos down the road.

I guess 20+ years in the software business is a "lifetime"...

I'll count that as odd.  On my account it says "Membership valid through (eternity)".

(You will receive lifetime updates for this product forever!)

I wonder how Cake differentiates those who get the "very very long, yet finite" membership and those who get eternal membership into the afterlife and beyond?

...not so far fetched.  I've seen that "cup of coffee" price go from 10 cents to $4+ in my lifetime.

Mine still says "Valid through [Infinity Symbol]".  Maybe I'm a Time Lord?  (see Doctor Who)
It's just one of those wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey things.

What is says is depended on where you look. If you look in your account it is infinity. If you look at the about in Sonar it says  2037. It could simply be a limitation on calculating the date with a 2 bit integer.

Being as how the range of an unsigned 2 bit integer is from 0 to 3...that would be quite limiting.

this is correct.   I saw the little infinity symbol at one point....and also now in my account, but upon checking, I looked in the "about Sonar" tab in the program, which listed the year.

So from this we can conclude that infinity ends in 2037. I always knew infinity wasn't as long as they used to say. Nothing lasts forever, not even infinity.
