nanoKontrol 2 Working but....

Ok after reading of all the problems people are having with the Korg usb drivers and getting the nanoKontrol2 to work in most everything, Including Sonar. I have gotten it to work but I need to modify the system(Sonar) to use the track sliders and rotaries and switches for only the synth outputs in the track view. Not the midi sliders,rotaries etc. As it is now the nano controls each control strip from left to right. So as it stands I can control only 4 actual project track parameters since I rarely if ever adjust the midi parameters. They are set and if I want note to be louder I let the velocity handle it. My question is, is there a way to set the midi tracks to not respond to the nanoKontrol? and set the other strips which I do want control over to respond to the nano? That way I would be able to control say 8 synth outputs or 7 synth outputs and the master output with the sliders and rotary knobs. All the control and marker functions work fine but I feel a little lame on customizing the midi. BTW the only way I get the nano to work on my Win7 x64 8gb machine is to remove ALL the Korg drivers and editor thingy. Then from a cold reboot plug in the nanoKontrol2 and let Windows install the drivers. Nothing from Korg will be recognized by Sonar. So sad. Thanks, Indie

    iirc (i junked the nanokontrol for a variety of headaches) you have two options for managing the data, either using act, the korg editor, or a combination of both.. you can map the sliders and buttons to specific functions or have then dormant.. again, iirc you setup a mackie control surface and then edit from there... when it worked i had start/stop/loop/record/rewind and 8 ch mixer/solo/mute and master volume working (when it wanted to)

    I just skimmed your post because I'm practicing but with that Korg stuff don't try to bend the program to the device. Use the editor librarian software to make the device work with the program. I gave up trying to get various programs to obey my padKontrol and learned how to set the CC#s on the device. It's a real pain in the butt but it works. Sadly Korg manuals are... uh, weird. Thus the pain in the butt.

    I got mine to work using the mackie control and I believe the generic control.

    I wish they made one with just a transport control. I never use all those sliders and knobs. It takes too much time and is less acurate.

    @beepster

    Does this mean you could use the NanoKontrol to do midi functions like bends and other such things?

    Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

    Update. Managed to get the editor to work with the Windows USB-MIDI driver. Set up and now works somewhat ok with X1. However in Reason 6+ it works like you would expect it to. Without any hassles at all. Go figure....

    @Guitarpima... with all of those devices you should be able to manipulate any MIDI controllable parameter. It's just a matter of mapping it which seems to be a ridiculous adventure with this Korg stuff. Check out youtube. There are tons of guys on there showing how to map Korg devices and it's all quite strange and convoluted. I haven't looked around enough in Sonar but I'm pretty sure many of the last gen Korg devices are NOT ACT ready and require a lot of fiddling to get working. That's why I say use the device controls and the editor librarian to set the device to what the program being controlled wants instead of expected the device to read and map to the program. It's a pain but once you learn the Korg way of doing things it should be pretty easy and work every time. Cheers.

    Reason probably just has a better map for Korg stuff. I wouldn't know though as I've never used it. You have to remember that Korg is a major competitor of Roland in the controller world. That might cause Cakewalk to not really develop their software to make Korg stuff easy to use. I could be wrong and slightly cynical on this but it would not surprise me. But you got it working so good for you. That's all that matters.
