nature photos from this week

We've been enjoying the evenings by sitting and watching the hummingbirds as the migration begins.

Rubythroated Hummingbird

As I was loading Go-Go and a guitar amp into our car last night I looked down and met this guy. I photographed him and then he slithered into a big stick pile before I had to decide his fate. :-)

Pygmy Rattlesnake

These were both shot in very low light with a 400mm lens at 5.6. I had to use a special noise reduction plugin to get useful results.

best regards,
mike

    Thanks Mike.

I use Photoshop and the noise plugin was Topaz Labs denoise.

I hope you enjoy the creative suite.

    Thanks bapu.

My wife just walked in a moment ago... two more pygmies out in the yard.

I photographed them extensively and then we put each in a plastic bucket.

We're going to drive them out into the forest far far away.

I have a friend who is actually a Phd expert on DiamondBack rattlers... his research indicates that in our area a Diamond Back uses a 10 mile range to forage.

These are just pygmies... but we're gonna take them out about 15 miles and let them have a good life where there are no houses etc.

    best regards,
    mike

The little guy in the top pic looks very content (while the one in the bottom pic looks pissed!).
