need help with screen recording software and Sonar X1

I'm using bb flashback express to try to record some Sonar tutorials, and I am having problems getting bb flashback to caputre the audio output from Sonar.  I've read that most screen recording software has trouble capturing audio from an ASIO device, so I was using ASIO4All to route the main output from Sonar to my computers internal soundcard.  However it still does not seem to capture the audio output.

I'm also using a Blue Snowball USB mic to record the voice audio for bb flashback, and that's the only thing that seems to work, but I don't know if that may be causing problems with capturing the audio off the sound card.

Anyone else using screen recording software have any suggestion on setup?

I love using Techsmith's Jing although you are limited to 5 minutes it really does a great job of capturing the screen and gives you lots of audio options.

I just upgraded to Camtasia Studio 8 and it has a lot more editing features and such but the engine is the same.

I might check out bb flashback.

It might have something to do with your default Windows recording device.
Check it and see if the Snowball is the default device or if it is set to something else.  BB Flashback might be looking for the default device.

OK,
I downloaded and installed it and all of my audio devices show up under the PC Speakers (What You Hear).  The problem is like you have encountered is that the audio is not being passed to the capture device.

Now I can select the Yeti Pro USB MIC and the other Line input sources from my outboard interfaces and I can see them.

The thing you need to do is to run your microphone into a mixer along with the audio output from SONAR to have your demo and commentary coming from the same audio source.
Then you can select other devices and should be able to capture from there.

I do not understand why they have all of these options and no way to manage audio devices better.  Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply.  I think I've ruled out the Snowball mic being an issue.  Right now I'm just getting no output from Sonar to BB Flashback.

I did discover a few things.

First on BB flashback if you go to the 'tools' menu and then click on the 'sound' tab, there are more options to select what you want.

I've tried using my Zoom R16 as the output, but when I try to use that as the output for BB Flashback, it says the device is unavailble, even though I have the "share driver" option checked off in Sonar sound preferences.  As I mentioned I try using ASIO, and I don't get any errors that there is a conflict, but there is no output recorded in BB Flashback.

Asio will only work with one device (regardless of SONAR's option to share drivers). That's just the way ASIO was written. Try going back to ASIO4All.

I did go back to ASIO4ALL, but somehow Sonar still seems to be locking out the driver.  Just to eliminate BB Flashback being an issue I opened a web browser and went to YouTube and used BB flashback to capture the audio and it worked fine there.

For whatever reason I'm still getting locked out from Sonar.
