new Distant Towers song, Kerosene

Howdy folks, happy holidays and well wishes to all!

Looks like we have just enough time left in 2016 to slip in this last song.  We have another in the pipe but don't expect to drop it until February sometime.  Tom is moving back to the US next week and we are excited.  We had just gotten started creating music with Preston when he left so we are looking forward to the three of us being able to get together in the same room every now and again to see what we can create.

So here is Kerosene....see below for more info if you like to hear nuts and bolts type stuff.  As always we appreciate any listens, good and bad critiques, opinions and any craziness you care to bring
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13492420

The ongoing train wreck of DT...
Tom McCaffrey:  Vocals, lyrics, bass, synth, mixing, general mayhem....the good kind....mostly.
Preston Richardson:  Drums, percussion, anything that can be struck with a stick and recorded.
Tony Wood:  One stick six strings and...well he tries.

So here is the interesting thing with this song.  Somehow we got sidetracked with this tune and ended up with three versions. The one you can access and listen to here.  The other one was a partial with guitars that had a bit more of a country tilt, although that was really just for laughs and we never went far with it.  Tom though, he went hog wild and did a punk rock version of this song that I just loved!  He took out all my guitars, changed the drum loops, kept his bass and laid down his own guitars and new partial vocals.  He called it For Your Disaster to Take Hold.  I keep asking him to finish it up and we could put it on our next CD.  He is hesitant since it is effectively all Tom with any contribution from Preston and myself.  I am sure you folks have had similar things happen in your own song creating.  It was just neat to hear how the seed from one song could spark other ideas that sounded so different.

Okay, sorry for all the yappin, thanks for any listens!

    Love it!

During the solo break, the bottom gets a little lost, probably because the bass moves up an octave, but it is noticeable...

    Very cool. More cowbell!
Only nit, there is an audible drop when the solo kicks in - maybe the bass but it starts straight after all of the percussion.

    Oh yeah.

THAT'S what I'm talking about. Brilliant intro, great riffage, wild and crazy vocals, great hook, superb drums. Top notch DT fellers.

Seriously great stuff, guys.  I couldn't pull out all the lyrics, but who cares... the rest of the tune made up for it.

Top notch rock n roll. Love the vox. Excellent guitars, but I think they could use a treble boost, they deserve to stand out a bit. Solid work all around.

know i am a bit hit and miss on here but i will always post on a DT tune. This one is your most pure-Goth for a while, love love love it. the production is also so much better than i've heard for a while; drums and bass both have presence and life. i think this might be Preston's best performance, but the whole thing works so well. two massive thumbs up

Thanks all, we appreciate the listens and thoughtful crits.  Tom is going to revisit the bass in the break to address the low end drop.  No video for this tune....not yet at least.  I agree with mgh, Preston really hit it out of the park on this one with energy.  I am a sucker for his ride cymbal work and he did not disappoint me on this one.  I asked Tom to push the vox up a little in the first few lines of this one.  In general I think his vox needs to be upfront more often.  On the last tune I mixed it and really pushed the vox forward.  Just another tune to learn from and a lot of fun to play.  Thanks again all, see ya around.

Hot dog ---- I'm loving this!  Performance, mix, arrangement  lyrics, etc. are all wonderful.  I think that I have not heard such wide initial panning on such interesting vocals before but man, does it work on this number.

Yeah, that was really cool.    DT, but perhaps a little different than the norm.    Good stuff!
