new Video

My studio has been down for weeks due a construction project...
I'm adding an additional 225 sq.ft...
My apologies for being absent from the forum for so long...

in the meantime, I've been posting some of my past work, along with some slide-shows, on YouTube, for more exposure...

Here's a tune some of you might remember from a good while back...
I added some images of Artwork from the Pulp Adventure Magazines popular back in the 30's & 40's

It's a boppy song and the mix appears to be okay and all of that, even though it ends abruptly. But then, in my own personal opinion, I am not sure about the singing. Perhaps a little less effect, but most of the words I understood, except perhaps for a couple of phrases more towards the beginning of the song. I am not sure if the usual listener will like the singing or understand the words because it may blend in with the effect on it too much with the song. I suppose I could myself pick up the phrases that I missed, but there was a lot going on in the song, so a few more listens may help to pick up more of the song. Horns in the song sounded fine, but the song sounded a bit busy to me.
But the video is done, so I guess in the end it is your prerogative on how it was done.

    Hey Frank,

It's great to see you back around here!

I must have missed the original post of this in the forum, but anyway, this is excellent, as always!

The musicianship and performances are top notch, and the vocals and harmonies sound great.  I think that's the first time I've heard you use the "Cher or Kanye" Autotune effect on your vox, and it was very tastefully done and sounds nice.

Wonderful job on the video, too, it was cool how you used the comic book pages to tell the story, very creative!

    Nice work as always, Frank!

Frank...........love the art work. Cool video.

Your mix "as always" sounds top notch !
I like the autotune work on the vocal, maybe alittle too much effect at times.
But that can be just a personal opinion.

I suck using autotune, hadn't been able to wrap my head around that beast.
Used it once to fix a sour note in a lead solo............ lol

    Enjoyed............. Tim

Janet... yes, I hope to spread out a bit when I'm through... thanks for listening...

Thanks Tim... I really appreciate the comments... really enjoyed your live mixes too...

I like the song a lot. Great playing and mixing.

I don't think the video goes with the song???

The only thing I don't like is that vocal effect that people think is cool. I always hated it since Cher started doing it. IMO, it just sounds bad.

    Other than that, well done!

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

I should of said - just a bit busy at times during the song. I may never get a comment correct, but I will keep trying.

Hi Frank and welcome back to the forum.  Cool video.  Terrific number.  Excellent playing and arrangement. I'm on my laptop but in spite of that the production sounds top notch.
    Really good stuff!!

Frank - this is very cool. At first I thought I just tuned in to Saturday Night Live.

Also, autotune drives me nuts - for some reason I just can't listen to it very long. Other than that - I love this.

This is great! Loved it! Just hate the Autotune effect. It's not you, I always hate it

but otherwise it's fantastic! The sax and guitar is great. Rythm sections sounds really well glued together. I'd buy the record

I absolutely love this tune from start to finish! I hear hints of all my fave bands from the 70's yet in a  modern way...all sorts of killer stuff all wrapped up into one. Incredible mix and musicianship all across the board.

I have to ask though...why the vocal tuning? It's obvious you can sing and have a great voice...why on earth would you ruin the tune with that? I know saying the word "ruin" may be too harsh and my opinion getting the best of me...but man, I've not heard a song like this in years with this much talent on every instrument. I felt like pressing stop as soon as that tuning artifact came in.

I guess my problem Frank....is people that play and write like you, are the people I look up to. Anyone that can do the Chicago, James Gang, Doobie Bros, Steely Dan, James Taylor, Supertramp progressive classic rock thing with horns and various instruments that take turns ripping peoples faces off with vocals to die for.....wins me over. However, it just gets to me when I hear them add studio effects that really don't need to be there. Ok, I didn't write the tune...so you by rights can tell me to shut up and I would understand completely. I just can't see why you felt the need to add that into a fantastic tune? Forgive me for my honesty if you find it offensive...I just totally loved this song accept for the tuning thing. Kinda like when I hear a killer metal band that screams through the entire song to the point of it not being enjoyable because of that...if that makes sense? Anyway...my harsh opinion aside, I'd kill to be able to write and play like you did here. Fantastic job, incredible mix...GREAT song!

I love you mayan!!! (in a non-gay way of course!) Can't wait to hear this track with you pouring your heart-felt vocals into this Frank! I'd buy an album of stuff like this in a heart-beat brother. If you ever release something like this, pm me...I'll fork out the cash without breathing. Best of luck..looking forward to hearing the tune....and thanks for not beating me up for my crits...I meant no offense. Nothing but respect and admiration bro....and some jealousy in a good way. :)

    Frank,

Cool song, reminds me of another cool guy, Boz Scaggs.    I like everything about it except......  AutoTune.   It is obvious you can sing and I think the effect really detracts from the song.    That said, a lot of people like it, works for Kanye West;)  Really well done, look forward to a version without Autotune though.  Really fine playing and overall result...

Yea, this is a great tune, I've been a fan of this for awhile.  Love the pulp fiction covers.  I had my daughter design the cover for one of my CDs in pulp art.  Very cool.

Oh yea, not content to make us all look bad, you're going to expand your studio!  You're a cruel man Frank.  Congratulations, it mus be exciting.
