probably in the 2-3k price range.
FWIW,
For 2-3k, you can have a custom built quad-core 3.2GHz/1600MHz FSB DAW (with a pair of quality 24" wide screen displays)... that would blow those Sony Viaos out of the water.
You could also get into a quad-core Laptop (running a Q6600 or faster) that has TI Firewire/Cardbus.
If you're going to spend 2-3k, you're much better off getting a custom system.
I'm not just saying this because I build them...
The fact is, you can hand choose literally every component so that there are no weak spots. (You can have the best of everything at that kind of price point... including real DAW related support.)
