obviously, you'll need an accordian and MORE COWBELL...

Seriously though, give us more information about what you want to do.

well, you could get alot out of a keyboard - if it's a decent one. Beats probably won't be what you would like - they get stale sounding pretty fast. I use leafDrums with Paradox plug in for various drum kits - I've been very pleased with the results.

You'll hear Audacity mentioned here as well - it's free and as it was suggested to me - I suggest it to you, it is a WAV editor that will allow you to manipulate a sound file in different ways. Google it and download it.

As far as not having a guitar - well that's just alien to me - I really don't know what to say...uh...get a guitar and a bass.

Not using stringed instruments would put you in MIDI land then...that's a place I don't know yet - so I couldn't help you there.

maybe get a triangle or a good set of spoons - yeah - you can't beat a good spoon solo!

Like what Joe said--what R U doing with your music, what style?

You probably will want to get a good dynamic and condensor mic. One may be enough. I just ordered a cheap mic off Musician's Friend for only $49 bucks, an MXL 990 I think(condensor). These will sound much better than a dynamic mic in most cases. They catch the subtleties of vocals, especially the higher range(think women and falsettos)... That one might be a nice mic for a starter and there are definitely some nice ones right around $100. MXL, Behringer, AKG, Nady. They might have one around $100 that works really nice. Other condensor that should be pretty nice are Shure, Rode and if you live in a mansion--Neumann. :)

If you have a keyboard then you can do it all, just start collecting more sound to control with it.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

Have done entire classical pieces with just a keyboard and cakewalk - that was when I had Cakewalk professional available to me. Now I will attempt the same with MC - but in my humble opinion thats all you need to staret with.

Yeah, just think, the entire White Album was recorded with one keyboard... and drums... and guitars... and bass... and vocals... and three very talented musicians... and Ringo... and I don't even think they had a keyboard... and George Martin...

Well nevermind, then. Get a band.

    Joe

btw, just kidding, the keyboard will do ya fine.
