new soundcard increases latency. please help

hey.....

i've been dealing with this problem for weeks now. can anyone help? basically, i'm recording my guitar with cakewalk music creator. i pentium 4, 2.4 GHz, 512 MB ram .

i've been using my standard factory installed soundcard (SoundMax) up till yesterday and been recording fine... however, when i hear myself record, there was a SLIGHT delay from when i hit a note and hear it from my speakers.

So, i went out and bought a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2zs. Now, there is a HUGE delay from when i hit a note to when i hear it. Can anybody help me?

I thought a better soundcard would be beneficial.

Thanks

Is your input monitoring on? If so, turn it off.

Also you might want to try adjusting your Latency. Go to (Options - Audio ) Click on the slide bar that says Fast---------Safe. Drag it to the right in small incriments, press OK then try recording again. if it works better then click the Profiler. If not try adjusting again. It's worth a try. If that doesn't help then increase the number that is reight above the bar. if that still doesn't help then go back to your original settings and check the Help files.
