new to sonar, need possible help
I am having issues registering sonar x2 studio on my Toshiba 64 bit laptop. is there a link anyone would have to point me in theh right direction? also, does x2 not work with fruity loops 10? I just upgraded my home studio from my iphone and was told by a producer friend of mine that it would be just fine with it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't mention what issues you were having with registration, but I would suggest you contact Cakewalk tech support for that problem. As far as X2 working with Fruity Loops (which is now called FL Studio), you should be able to ReWire it into SONAR by choosing Insert > ReWire Device > FL Studio from SONAR's main menu. However, if you're running the 64-bit version of SONAR this may not work if FL Studio doesn't support ReWire 64-bit... I'm not sure if it does or not. SONAR X2 _does_ support ReWire 64-bit. I think I ran Sonar as Administrator to do the registration. (I think I left it set to always run that way too). Bob Bone

yes I am. im the only one to use this laptop. had it since Monday, and am the only user. That doesn't matter, you still have to Right Click and select Run As Administrator the first time so you can register it.

hmm... I don't recall getting that error message when I ran into the registration problem... but that was X1. Definitely select Run As Admin and see what happens.

@Frosty... I was thinking that too. What browser did you download with? Use firefox or another browser with a download manager. If you must use IE you need to use a separate download manager to ensure things don't get screwed up. Cheers.

It sounds like you are not at current maintenance level for Windows. X2 requires Service Pack 1 or higher for Windows 7 - (might be the X2a update - one or the other). Anyways, Cakewalk has started coding for a minimum level of maintenance - they rely on some C++ routines to be present, and it is Service Pack one that brings those into Windows. In any case - make sure Windows is up to date on all maintenance, Bob Bone

ill look into that thank you. ive been on the phone 3 times now, and each person said something different. one guy said register it again, then the other guy said the C++ files, and the last fella said to disable my firewall. if that doesn't work ill get the service pack and give that a shot.

Pretty sure it's going to one, or a combination of these things the guys have suggested. Hang on in there - and welcome to the forum. Incidentally, make a point of putting your system specs in your signature like a lot of us have done. During your learning curve you're probably going to on here a lot trying to work things out, and you'll soon be fed up with posting the same stuff and we'll be fed up having to keep asking for it.

Distorted is bad - (unless you are intending its presence). Do songs play normally through Windows Media Player? Bob Bone

I've never imported an mp3 but could this possibly be a conversion problem? I know if you import a wav and don't check off a box that converts the wav to the projects audio settings (samplerate/bitrate) it will cause all sorts of nastiness. Not sure if this applies to mp3s.

Right, here we go - and remember I said to put your specs in your signature? Because it all starts now. What are you using for a soundcard? Depending on the answer to this then an external pre-amp might or might not be required.

Is the actual file extension mp3? If not yes definitely convert it to something that Sonar can handle. A regular mp3 should import fine (I think) but if that program you mentioned is in some different format that's probably the cause of the problem. Cheers.
