new video from Kicksville - Teenagers On Drugs
howdy y'all - This week's Kicksville release gets a video! http://youtu.be/cVI2sOTTZE4 (you can also stream/download the song here http://kicksville.bandcamp.com/track/teenagers-on-drugs) In 2013, a certain major news organization published a fantastically bizarre editorial about The Evil Demon Weed. And, well...we couldn't resist using their own drivel to poke 'em right in the eye. The song's "lyrics" are 97% word-for-word from that editorial (we edited for length and changed the kid's name), 2% from an editorial published in 1962 for comparison, and 1% snarky comments from us. This isn't the place to get into the politics of this subject, but no matter where you stand on the issue, you gotta admit this editorial sounds like it was written in 1953 not 2013. The author was just *asking* for us to poke him with the satire stick

Oh, and I forgot to mention a fun Sonar-related bit.... We wrote some of the basic ideas for the music back in 2000 or so. When we were looking for a piece of music to fit these "lyrics," we pulled the ancient project file out of the archives, and it fit perfectly. So, this song actually started off in Cakewalk Professional 8 (we even kept some of the keyboard and guitar tracks from that version), and was finished in Sonar X2. Let's hear it for backwards compatibility - kudos to Cakewalk for making X2 play so nicely with a 15-year old file!

This was really good all around! Video was just right for the lyrics and music. I'm just wondering where you got all the video from? This could sell! kakku

I love this! Brings me back to all the music I used to listen to in High School. Kinda makes me want to go back and listen to some stuff I haven't listened to in a while :-) Killer track, and perfect video for it.

I understood it better as a song for video. A great idea to get a point across. You guys are highly imaginative and make some unique mixes. I enjoyed reading about how it all came about too. Nice!

Thanks, everyone! I don't consider myself much of a video guy, but I like how this one came out, and I'm really glad y'all enjoy it too. We definitely felt like we needed a video for this tune - I think the idea comes across better than just listening to the song, like Tim says. Kakku - the footage we didn't shoot ourselves all came from archive.org. Their collection of public domain films is an awesome resource, especially since I don't have a budget (or the cameras, etc.) to do any real filming on my own. Most of the Kicksville videos I've done use large chunks from the archives...only hard part is searching through the GIANT pile of footage to find the stuff you want.

I did one of my music videos using archive.org too :-) Great resource although yes, it's definitely a job sorting through it all to find worthwhile stuff haha.

I used to burn, not bake. It's been 26 years since I participated in that stuff but I believe I just had a flashback. very pertinent material and the music was great. Scary!!!

Lynn Brilliant work!
^^^^^^^^ Can't add much more. Great music track - heavy yet sort of psychedelic. And yeah, the spoken word fits so well over it. Dream On...

Thanks, y'all! Considering how bloody bleak the music biz environment is these days, this place is the one of the few bright spots.... I really appreciate folks taking the time to listen/watch and [gasp] actually ENGAGE with other musicians.
