next very frustrating problem regarding the help file window
Why does the help file always hide behind X1 main window or behind the floating windows? how can I get it to stop doing that so that I can read the help file while I'm trying to make edits based on what the help file says?

I was getting that every single time I opened help! last update seemingly took care of it because I haven't had the issue since. It is certainly a very irritating bug, that's for certain.

I was getting it too But for me the 246 build took care of it and now I can't reproduce it no matter what I try. Are you running Sonar in 64 bit?

I'm not seeing a problem with X1b255, and hadn't noticed it before.

yes, X1b, 64bit, build 255. it has ALWAYS done this with 64bit. I don't remember ever looking at the help file for 32bit, so I can't confirm or deny if it does it there or not. I'll try that tonight when I get home. but for 64bit it does it ALL the time. I can click to make it the focus and it goes back behind the windows after I've released it. sometimes I can click back and forth between the help window and the plugins and it will finally stay on top, but as soon as I click on anything of the plugins or the main window again then it goes and hides again.

so I wonder what the differences are between our machines/systems that would be causing this?

It could be different makings of graphic cards in combination with drivers. Especially flaky drivers or drivers in specific conditions can give weird effects. As a example. I also do 3D work. A few years ago one of the 3D design programs I use had a very strange fault. All normals where turned inside out, resulting in a garbled looking design. Strange enough on another system everything was fine, and even on a third system with exactly the same graphic hardware there was no problem at all. As there was just an update done on the 3D software, I was convinced the update broke things. It turned out it was a fault in a specific driver version. The system that gone wrong had the latest driver (witch I updated around the same time), and the other system with the same graphic hardware had a not yet updated driver. After doing a driver update on the system working good, the same fault developed. After rolling back the graphic drivers on both systems all two of them worked without any glitch. I was blaming the 3D for the fault, and had made an error report. To my embarrassment I had to redraw the error report, and had to send a new error report - to the driver developers. This was a few years ago, but I i have learned not to be too hasty to blame a application. That is not to say an application can not be faulty tough...

it wouldn't surprise me if the problem would be tied to the graphics drivers. but X1 is the only application I have a problem with. so even if it's because of X1 not playing well with my video cards' drivers, it's still an X1 problem.

well, I'm finding that it's project dependent. which really surprises me. that makes me think it's a softsynth or plugin or screenset, etc kind of incompatibility with the help window. I opened a different project in x86 and the help file was fine, but it didn't have near the softsynths or plugins - just audio. then I opened that same project in x64 and the help window was fine. but then I go back to the project I was working on before and the help file stays on bottom. in the problem project, I have the console view, browser and CB floating (although the CB was floating in the audio only project that worked correctly), I have a vx64 vocal strip and Kontakt 4 up. wonder if it's a problem with kontakt's window? I deleted Kontakt, saved it as a different name and restarted sonar and the problem persists.

Ok - think I've figured it out. it's the floating console view. if I close it then the help file window will follow the correct windows rules (if it has focus it is on top, if it does not have focus it is not necessarily on top). if I open the floating console view then the help window stays behind all sonar windows. I'll ammend my problem report.
