no more "Shared..." folders?
BandLab we’ve put a lot of effort into making sure that it doesn’t affect previous SONAR installations
can someone confirm that the mess of "Shared..." folders is no more?

It asked if I wanted to use settings from previous version, and it seems to have done that ok. Theres a folder on windows in Program Files/Cakewalk called Cakewalk Core which is pretty much as expected and for me Audio was placed in D:\Cakewalk Projects\Audio data alongside previous version. seems to be working just like Platinum.

It installs the core software in PROGRAMFILES on your C Drive. No option to choose custom during install. The ASSISTANT downloads the install exe to your downloads folder if you want to go the trad route .. It also auto downloads what seems to be ARTIST INSTRUMENTS and insists on installing .. even though you might have these installed with your legacy platinum

pwalpwal VST location?
It asks for that when you install via the downloaded exe BUT only the 64bit folder location I think. After install you wll need to manually add your other VST folders in Preferences as normal. The assistant does have an option during install to migrate settings, that might do the trick

If you currently have Platinum installed, you don't need to install the content again. Just choose the option to install only the core program. It picks up most things automatically (e.g. themes, templates, colors). I had to add some VST scan paths and correct a couple pathnames on the Folder Locations page. After installation, though, any configuration changes you make to the old program will not affect the new one, nor vice versa. The new installation simply copies your existing INI files into their own folder, the same way SONAR did when going from one major version to another. It appears to use the same registry keys for inventorying plugins (for now), although it will insist on running a fresh scan the first time you start it up. New Cakewalk resides in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\Cakewalk.exe" and doesn't conflict with your existing SONAR installation. You can even open both SONAR and Cakewalk at the same time to compare them and verify everything's where you want it (I took screenshots of the SONAR Preferences pages, which was easier to read side-by-side on one monitor). At this time, you can simply think of New Cakewalk as the latest update to SONAR. It'll open all your existing projects, find all your VIs and effects, and save them to the same place in the same format as before. Until they make some fundamental change to the project file format, you can switch back and forth between SPLAT and Cakewalk.exe without complications.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

No, this is just like a completely new version of SONAR. You have to copy that stuff.

It did change some of my file associations, for .cwp .cal .bun etc. so they all loaded into Cakewalk by bandlab instead of Platinum so I changed them all back so Platinum is default whilst I check out the new one.
