I have a similar problem.. sometimes the audio engine will stop but I see the meters dancing. If I fg to preferences and just invoke the driver and bring up the aiso panel and click OK it must reset the audio engine and everything plays then

I've experienced strange issues with the audio loss as well. When I modify ASIO settings within Sonar, or invoke the ASIO panel from other audio programs (e.g. BFD2), I lose audio - no sound, nothing registering on the meters, etc. It's as if the audio engine is frozen - I also seem to lose some audio configuation settings when this occurs - when I look in edit->preferences, some configurations are gone. Only resetting the pc and audio interface restores the sound. I'm not sure if it's X1a related or not, as I've also just switched to a new audio interface (picked up an RME Fireface UFX) - so haven't isolated whether the issue originates with Sonar or the RME driver. RME believes it's Sonar or BFD2 not releasing the audio driver as required. I figured I'd wait until X1B to see if the situation changes.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. When I use band-in-a-box, even if Sonar is closed, when I close BIAB and go back into Sonar, the audio engine doesn't work. For me, I have to reboot windows to fix things. Not exactly a workflow enhancement. It looks like the answer wasn't obtained with the above thread?

I think this could be an issue with sample rate change on win 10 not working properly. I`m seeing alote of treads about win 10 and usb problems while trying to solve my problem. I hope its not that big cause if we have to wait for Microsoft God help us all. Peace

I had this problem a lot while using Steven Slate Drums 4. At slower tempos, it would work, but once I bumped them up to 180+, I'd get motor-boating and then complete loss of sound. I usually had to reboot to get the sound to return.

Just FYI, I've been working in X3 all evening and haven't had the problem. Haven't even had to press the audio reset button. Seems like its a problem w/ Platinum?

Sorry to hear of your woes Chuck. I had issues with the audio engine in the last update too and have rolled back to an earlier stable version as I have upcoming shows. Slightly disturbingly, a simple rollback didnt rectify the issue. I had to reload a disc image I took before updating to return my system to normal operations.

Interesting. I've only just posted elsewhere about something similar. I also believe it relates to win10 and sample rates. I will stick with the current sonar version and await the next update to see if anything changes. You reminded me Bruce I need to buy another drive for disc imaging backup.........

Money well spent Dave:) DAW is offline and I have not updated windows recently. Sonar is the only thing that has changed so I believe the issue for me is there. I'm thinking I'll sit out a couple of updates. Always seems to work wonders, particularly after big changes.

Interesting thread, guys. just last night I had the same issue 3 times that Sonar "lost connection to its audio engine", meaning the song kept playing but Sonar entered the non-responsives state. playback was fine but could no longer be stopped neither from keyboard nor control surface. i know i had been pushing the system hard, running low ASIO buffers and doing "nasty" things like adding plugs while playback ... still, been guilty of that before, but have not seen that behaviour The other odd thing is that Sonar occasionally does not like the combination of certain plug-ins e.g. FF MB and WAVES AR Plates (on different buses). Independent of ASIO buffer size it will crackle. Often closing the project and reopening fixes it (no changes to buffers or plug settings) ... weird

I've had this issue as well with both Windows 10 and Windows 7. In my case it occurred when dragging in audio from my desktop through the browser. When just importing through the drop down menu it worked fine. This is on two different PCs with different soundcards (both USB) and Platinum on one machine and Professional on another. Edited to say that the Win 10 PC is Anniversary Update, skipped Creators Update for now. Audio devices were Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 2nd Gen on Win 10 and Steinberg UR22 MKII on Win 7.

If you rolled back and also rebuilt the aud.ini file in Sonar, then it would most likely narrow this down to either the audio drivers or the OS, and rule out Sonar.

I have the inverse of that Rob, where I can start and stop playback and the transport moves as it should, however only a small section of completely random audio samples are played. Really weird. The saving grace is that the project can be saved and reopened and plays correctly without issue after reopening. I don't even have to restart Sonar. Still unusable in a live performance situation though, hence the rollback. FWIW Rob, as I know you also use Sonar live, if you do roll back any project that was saved using the latest versions of sonar, upon opening in an earlier version (my stable choice is 2016-09) will see any archived track feeding a disconnected VST synth as a missing audio output upon loading. Cancelling the dialogue and resaving the project rectifies the issue. I suspect the ill fated attempt to have Sonar recognise outputs on different systems a few updates back is to blame.

Thanks for the ideas guys. In the interest of good science, after an issue free day in the rehearsal room after rolling back I reinstalled the latest Sonar and the problem returned. The PC is offline. The only change was Sonar. I understand there are many variables in the driver/os/software environment, but make of that what you will. I have learned through hard experience that when an issue arrises and it is suggested it must be something other than Sonar, I hold out for a couple of updates and the issue that wasn't sonar dissappears:)

Tenfoot you dont even know how important is your last tread for me. Now I know for sure that I have two problems and I can separate them. They both stop the audio driver , cause you know I have just bought this soundcard ten days ago. Infact i rolled back to 2016.09 on the small i3 Toshiba Laptop and motu 624 is working as it should,no crashes at all. Now all i have to solve is the issue of the usb 3.0 on my Acer cause that is my work horse. Thanks man. Peace

I'm going to be using Home Studio for this very reason. For $50 it also might be a solution for you guys. HS is rock solid so far and no reason it cannot play anything done in SPLAT. I will be doing a test run in a couple of weeks so will soon find out.

I put forth on another thread if this problem started (at least for me) when they introduced the note chase function. I still have yet to roll back to the version before that feature. Not sure which rev, but I think it was before 2017. In fairness, it happens so random that odds are it isn't the note chase, and has happened on projects with both audio and MIDI.

Interesting Johnny. I wonder though is there much difference in the playlist code? I don't mean to give the wrong impression about Platinum playlist - it is rock solid and I have been using it live in each flagship version of Cakewalk software for decades. It is just susseptible to the niggles of the rolling update model introducing elements that don't sit well on some systems and with certain drivers. The beauty of the model is you can roll back to a version that is solid.
