notation

Hello, I'm considering getting Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 Producer, my only question is regarding notation. Will I be able to input in realtime and see the notation correctly in time as it was played?? Thank you.

I don't think it works that way but if someone else doesn't answer first I'll give it a try next time I'm at my DAW. There is a notation view but I think it only pops up for editing.

you can't input "real time" except if recording via MIDI controller.  you can't do that with the mouse.

So if I'm inputting using a midi keyboard the pgm will write out the notation in correct time?....Eighth notes...sixteenth notes...that kind of thing?

Ok I just tried it and it works fine. The notation is scored as I played a midi input from a controller, It is drawn in real time with just a little latency probably due to the quality of my video card. Cool.
The note values appear as I played them so all depends on your playing accuracy as to what they might be, but it is the way you wish. It writes exactly what you play.
You can activate "input quantization resolution" to clean things up as you record.

    Beagle You answer says can't??

hey, Johnny - I don't think we're talking about "real time" the same way.  my definition of "real time" is the same as recording at project speed.  if you're playing (or recording) the project with the timeline moving you can't enter notes on the PRV at the same time that the timeline hits a particular place.

maybe I'm the one misunderstanding here, but from what I'm understanding of the OP's question, you can't enter notes in "real time" without recording them via MIDI controller.
